Probably dating from the late 1800's, and measuring 11/16", this is a molded black glass button with facets on the domed top and a nice lined border. It has an iridescent luster applied that some people refer to as "carnival glass". It has a brass plate and loop shank. It reminds me of a hat, although I don't think that was the maker's intention.
